Derek L. Nielsen has expertise in the areas of electronics, computer hardware and software, Internet and business methods, communications, optics, electro-mechanical equipment, and mechanical equipment. Derek also works with patent portfolio management and strategic analysis. This work includes general and competitive patent landscape analysis, as well as patent and portfolio evaluation to assist prosecution and business based decesions.
Derek received his undergraduate degree in physics from The American University, Washington, D.C. (B.S., 2000) and his law degree from The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Sacramento, California (J.D., 2005). While at McGeorge, he specialized in Intellectual Property Law Concentration. Prior to law school, he worked as a network systems administrator in Silver Spring, Maryland. Mr. Nielsen is not admitted to practice in Minnesota and is not yet registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He resides in Philadelphia, PA.
