Rochelle K. Seide is a patent attorney with expertise in Intellectual Property and Life Sciences matters. Her practice encompasses all facets of patent law, including business analysis, due diligence, litigation, clearance opinions, patent strategies, patent prosecutionand transactional matters, particularly in the life sciences. Rochelle represents clients in all facets of patent law. She has obtained patents in the areas of biotechnology, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals for a variety of clients. Rochelle also counsels clients on legal issues relating to biotechnology, chemical and pharmaceutical patents, including patent enforcement, validity and infringement, licensing, collaborations, due diligence and business development. Her experience in transactional matters for biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients, includes IP due diligence, IP audits and structuring deals and collaborations. She has represented clients in patent litigations before the federal courts, as well as in inter partes patent interferences in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device technologies. She has also served as a patent law expert in patent litigations relating to recombinant hormones, starch-based biodegradable plastics, assays for genetic polymorphisms and treatment for bacterial sepsis. Rochelle was also the attorney on record in the amicus brief filed by the New York Intellectual Property Law Association in the KSR v. Teleflex case and had a significant role in the preparation of NYIPLA's Supreme Court amicus brief filed in the Medimmune v. Genentech case.
While attending law school, she was an instructor/assistant professor of medical genetics and microbiology at the Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, where her research centered on protein/gene therapy for genetic metabolic diseases. She also worked as a genetics counselor at the Akron Children's
Medical Center and as an adjunct faculty member in the departments of chemistry and biology at
Kent State University .
Rochelle was a member of the National Academy of Sciences' Committee on Intellectual Property in Genomic and Protein Research and Innovation (which culminated in a report, entitled, Reaping the Benefits of Genomic and Proteomic Research: Intellectual Property Rights, Innovation and Public Health, NAS report publicized in November 2005 and published March 2006).
She is a charter member of the advisory council to the University of Akron School of Law's Center for Intellectual Property Law. Rochelle is also a member of the board of directors of the National Inventors Hall of Fame and is a member of the board of the BioJudiciary Project, a not-for-profit venture of BIO, which was established to provide education to the judiciary on biotechnology.
Recognized as an expert in her field, Rochelle is listed in the Chambers USA Guide, America's Leading Business Lawyers (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007), Chambers Global, The World's Leading Lawyers (2004, 2005, 2006), The Best Lawyers in America (2005-2006). She has also been recognized as a
