James Hallenbeck is an officer at SLW and a licensed attorney focusing on patent prosecution in various technology areas including complex computer software systems. Jim received a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Chapman University in Orange, California (B.S., cum laude, 1998) and a Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law (J.D., 2004). Prior to joining the firm, Jim worked as a software engineer and analyst, designing and developing global software systems supporting a wide range of industries including financial services, automotive, and insurance. Additionally, Jim spent over five years as a United States Marine. He is a American Intellectual Property Law Association, currently serving as Vice-Chair of the Electronic and Computer Law Committee. Jim is also a board member of the Iowa Intellectual Property Association.
In particular, Jim has written and prosecuted many patent applications involving software. Technologies include trusted platform modules, intrusion and threat detection and mitigation, in memory databases, relational database management, industrial system control, agent based resource allocation, business modeling, data compression, web based merchandising, print defect detection, 3D graphic modeling and rendering, data visualization, logistics management, semiconductor design and simulation, document authoring and rendering, encryption, network load balancing, multiprocessor management and synchronization, and many other technologies.
