Troy Svihl is a registered patent attorney practicing intellectual property law with expertise in chemical engineering, chemical, and mechanical patent law. Troy has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patents throughout the world and in technological areas such as chemical engineering processes, drug delivery technology, food products, metallurgy and metal processing methods, polymeric materials, cosmetics, coatings, and medical devices. Troy received a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota and a J.D. from the University of Tennessee. Prior to joining Schwegman, Lundberg & Woessner, Troy was an associate at a large patent law firm in the Boston area and served as head of European IP affairs for Synthes, Inc., a multi-billion dollar medical device company. While at Synthes, Troy helped found the company's first global IP department; managed patent procurement, enforcement, and infringement defense proceedings; performed infringement risk analysis; gave legal counsel to upper management and product development personnel; and managed Synthes global trademark portfolio. Troy also has significant experience in negotiating and drafting agreements involving intellectual property, including licenses, acquisition, development, and consulting agreements. Troy is admitted to the Patent Bar, the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the U.S.D.C. for the District of Massachusetts.
