Biotechnology uses biological material from living organisms to provide products and services. It covers many, diverse areas including healthcare, agriculture, food production, and biodegradable materials. Recent case law both in the US and internationally has changed the boundaries of what is protectable and so patent practitioners have to be very well versed in US and international laws to ensure protection can be sought in the most effective manner.
