Leon T. Cain II is a registered patent attorney whose practice includes patent preparation and prosecution before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He has extensive experience in all aspects of patent prosecution including U.S. and international patent applications, appeals, interviews, and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) practice.
Prior to joining Schwegman, Leon was a patent associate for a North Carolina-based patent boutique law firm, as well as a DC/Virginia-based intellectual property law firm where he prosecuted patent applications for a variety of international clients in both large corporations and start-ups. Leon also worked as a Primary Patent Examiner in the USPTO in Technology Center 2600. There, he examined patent applications in the areas of computer graphics, image processing, three-dimensional (3D) rendering, virtual gaming, and medical imaging devices. Leon serves as Treasurer and Council Member for the North Carolina Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section.
He received his B.S. degree, cum laude, in Computer Science from South Carolina State University and his J.D. degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law.
In his spare time, he enjoys coaching his son’s AAU basketball team, playing the drums, and serving his community through various service projects through his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha.
