Philip E. Alford is a registered patent agent practicing before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with an emphasis on organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, materials science, medical treatment, medical devices, polymers, industrial chemistry, food chemistry and agricultural chemistry.
Dr. Alford has worked with clients of all sizes to build and manage their patent portfolios in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Alford has also worked on post-grant proceedings (e.g., Inter Partes Review) and diligence related to intellectual property acquisitions.
Dr. Alford earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. His doctoral research focused on synthetic organic chemistry of small molecule heterocycles and natural products. After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Alford joined a boutique IP firm in New York, NY where he worked for several years before joining Schwegman, Lundberg & Woessner in Minneapolis, MN.
Dr. Alford is an author of several peer-reviewed scientific publications and has contributed several chapters to academic texts on heterocyclic chemistry.
