Matt Norwood is a Principal and registered patent attorney at Schwegman Lundberg & Woessner. His practice is focused on preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, managing the day-to-day patent prosecution of large, technically complex portfolios for clients ranging from startups to established innovators.
Matt provides legal advice and opinions to clients on patent strategies and transactions, including patent portfolio development, IP licensing and acquisition, policing and enforcement of IP rights, and IP due diligence and risk management. He has experience in a wide range of industries, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, silicon photonics, robotics, optics, process automation, non-destructive testing, telecommunications, user interfaces, and medical devices.
In addition to patent prosecution, Matt has considerable expertise in open source software licensing. He is a member of the New York state bar and the Law Society of Ontario, and previously practiced as a patent agent and barrister in Canada.
Originally from Washington, DC, Matt has also lived and worked in Boston, New York City, Toronto, and Ottawa. He currently resides in Ontario, Canada, and will be relocating to North Carolina in the coming months.
