Virtual and In-Person Events
From February 8 through March 18, the SLW Institute provided the 2022 Virtual PCT Training Seminar. WIPO consultant Carl Oppedahl delivered practical, down-to-earth training on the PCT process, docketing, filing, and strategic use of the PCT. This seminar was also hosted live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and San Jose, California in past years.
In 2020, we hosted the Destination IP Virtual Summit, which is now available on demand.
International IP
Also taking place this year are new episodes in the International IP series. This series examines recent developments in IP, focusing on geographic areas around the world.
On March 22, guest speakers Emily Collins and Tom Hamer from Kilburn & Strode joined us to present, “The European Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court: What Are They, When are They Happening, and How Should I Prepare?” This webinar was moderated by Schwegman principals Paul Urbanski and Jeffrey Cobia. The recording and presentation materials are available on-demand on the SLW Institute.
Then, on March 24, Schwegman’s Director of China Intellectual Property Practice, Aaron Wininger, presented, “2021 China Year in Review and What to Expect in 2022.” This webinar was moderated by SLW International Principal Maureen Kinsler. Look for another International IP episode later this year, when Maureen Kinsler presents a European patent law update, and Aaron Wininger moderates.
Emerging Tech
The SLW Institute’s Emerging Tech webinar series also continues in 2022. On January 27, the panel discussion, “CleanTech: Follow the Money and the Patents,” took place. Schwegman principals Piers Blewett and Andre Marais joined Schwegman analytics specialist Rob Stanz and external business analyst Benjamin Hall to discuss this ever-evolving topic.
