Overview

Hugo Biermann is based in the firm’s Silicon Valley office and has significant international patent experience.  He has a client-centric mindset and prides himself on his responsiveness, attention to detail, and deep understanding of clients’ technologies. Hugo has a keen proficiency in a range of technologies, such as AI and machine learning, augmented and virtual reality, computer vision, computer processors, cloud computing, and blockchain technology. In addition to assisting clients with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, Hugo has experience in providing strategic assistance related to intellectual property-related contracts, due diligence projects, validity and clearance analysis, and intellectual property valuations.
Hugo was recognized on multiple occasions as a “Rising Star” by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) (2020-2023), and was selected for Intellectual Asset Management’s (IAM) listing of recommended individuals in South Africa for patent prosecution (IAM Patent 1000 for 2022, published by Law Business Research). Hugo holds degrees in engineering and law, and qualified as a patent attorney in South Africa. In addition, he passed the examination for recognition to practice before the USPTO and is currently a USPTO patent practitioner with limited recognition under 37 CFR § 11.9(b).
